Stereo Does Not Power On
This may be a fuse problem. Check all fuses first. There are three fuses to this system.

  • Constant +12 volts supplied to car stereo for retaining the memory station preset buttons. Located under hood of car near battery. This fuse can be labeled "Back Up".

  • Switched +12 volts supplied to car stereo when ignition is turned on. This fuse is located in fuse panel in car. This fuse can be labeled "Stereo" or "Radio".

  • Bose amplifier +12 volts, this power does not affect the operation of the car stereo. It affects the power supplied to the Bose amplifier causing no audio. Located in fuse panel, in many cases, this fuse if not labeled "Bose".

Note - The first two +12 volt powers may be checked at the back of the car stereo connector. See "Wire Harness Diagrams".

If all +12 volt powers are present at car stereo, this is a car stereo problem. See shipping before sending for repair.

Stereo On With No Sound
This could be a fuse problem, mentioned in "Stereo does not power on" above. Check all fuses.
There is also a +12 volt signal, switched +12 volts, from the car stereo when turned on sent to the amplifier to have it turn on. This wire can also be checked at back of car stereo, Tuner +B. See "Wire Harness Diagrams". If this power is present at back of car stereo, this will be an amplifier problem. See shipping before sending for repair.

Speakers Have Static
Requires troubleshooting! This problem can be speakers or a Bose Amplifier.
If the static is from one speaker, remove the speaker. You can either remove the opposite side speaker and swap or hook any other know working speaker to this location. Testing purposes only, most Bose speakers are 1-2 ohms. Other car speakers are 4 ohm, home speakers can be 8 ohm. You may find the audio level drops when testing with another speaker. It will because you are not testing with a Bose speaker.

Does the problem

  • Follow the speaker if swapping or disappear with a good speaker?

  • Remain in the same position?

If the problem remains in the same position, this is likely a Bose amplifier problem. See "Troubleshooting Bose Amplifier".

If the problem follows the speaker or disappears with another known working speaker connected, this is a speaker problem. The dealer$hip is very proud of their Bose speakers. These Bose speakers can be purchased directly from Bose for $40 each including shipping. Bose Customer Service (800)231-2673. When calling this number, you may be directed to voice mail, it may take several days for Bose to return your call.

No Front or Rear Speaker Sound
In most cases after "Safety Recall" has been completed, the speakers usually go out in pairs, either fronts or rears, on rare occasions all four.
See "Speakers have static" above for testing speakers. If when hooking up another speaker there is no sound, this is an amplifier problem. See shipping before sending for repair.
