Troubleshooting Your Corvette Bose Gold Systems
1997 - 2002

This Corvette Bose Gold system has six different pieces: The AM/FM/CD in dash, two front Bose enclosures with speakers and amplifiers, Bose Signal Processor and two rear speakers. We have instructions posted to the website, Stereo, Bose Amplifier, Bose Signal Processor and Speaker Removal for the equipment in this system.

How does this Bose system operate in this Corvette?
All audio signals originate at the car stereo. Four Channels of audio are routed out of the stereo to the BSP (Bose Signal Processor). Audio is equalized for the Bose system at the BSP. Two audio signals are routed directly out of the BSP to the 50 watt Bose amplifiers in the doors that control the subwoofers. The BSP also routes four channels of audio back to the car stereo for processing through the 12 x 4 watt amplifiers in the stereo. These four outputs are then routed to the two front doors speakers and two rear speakers.

AC Control No Display - One of the more common problems with these year Corvettes. See "Corvette DIY AC Control Repair".

Intermittent audio or one side low volume - This may be a problem with the BSP (Bose Signal Processor). See "Corvette DIY Signal Processor Repair for Intermittent audio".

How do you trouble shoot this audio system?  First, check all the fuses. All fuses are mentioned at our Introduction to Troubleshooting. The most common problem with this system is distorted sound from front speakers and CD not working.

Troubleshooting the Stereo

Customers commonly send this car stereo to the shop for repair of CD, not accepting CD's, not playing CD's and/or not ejecting CD's. This is obviously a stereo problem.

Troubleshooting Bose Enclosures

The 1997-2002 Bose amplifiers are not commonly seen in the shop for repair, yet! Common problem with this system is distorted audio from front speakers. Usually noticed with the bass notes. This is a Bose subwoofer speaker problem. If you have one side that works properly, swap subwoofers to see if the problem follows the speaker or remains on the same side. If the problem follows the speaker, you need a new subwoofer. If the problem remains on the same side, this may be a signal processor or amplifier problem. Swap subwoofer amplifiers to see if the problem follows the amplifier.

Checking Bose Speakers

Remove the door panel, instruction are posted on this site at Removal. It is a good idea to give the speakers a visual inspection for water or for physical damage. Swap suspect speakers to a known working position for testing.

Bose speakers can not be replaced with aftermarket speakers. Aftermarket speakers are four ohm. Bose speakers are one to two ohm. Installing an aftermarket speaker in place of a Bose speaker automatically cuts the Bose amplifier power 1/4 to 1/2 it's original output.

The Subwoofer can not be replace with an aftermarket speaker because of the physical restrictions.

One Front Side Speaker Does Not Work

This is a common problem we have seen on several occasions. After removal of the door panel, we have found the amplifier not plug in. Mating the connectors takes care of this problem. This has always been on the passenger's side.
